Way way way before Flickr

This club had a membership of several professional men based in Edinburgh and St. Andrews — these people just happened to be, like most of us, amateur enthusiasts for Calotype photography. This means that the photos are not all shining professional examples of craft and art, but are fascinating and offer a glimpse into the Scotland of the 1840s-50s. It is neat too see what they chose to photograph (their immediate family, big castles, and Themselves).
